The Federal Government Closed Wednesday Transactions
After announcing that they will be closed last Monday and Tuesday, the U.S. Office of the Personnel Management also announces that they will still be closed on Wednesday, February 10, 2010 because the snowstorm continues to affect the region. The announcement was done to protect the welfare of all the employees, students, and other individuals. It is believed that if the snowfall will continue to cause danger to the resident’s of the region federal government will still be closed.
This has been the longest time that the federal government has been closed because of snow since 1996. The announcement still follows similar rules that have been announced last Monday, February 8, 2010. The incident already caused the region lost on their productivity that has already affected their economy. However, there are already some employees who are forced to work on their home in order to meet their agencies requirement. Aside from the different agencies that has been closed for three days, the students who are residing around Washington D.C. are also been affected by the situation.
If the snowstorm continues the OPM will be forced to continue to close the federal government for a longer period of time. The residents around the region are hoping that the snowstorm will soon be over because it already cause property lost and they are having a hard time going out of their home to buy their daily basic needs. The roads are almost covered with snow but the government is already making their move on this problem.
According to the Director of OPM, John Berry, the federal government is already losing a great lost on their productivity, which has a total of 100 million dollars each day. They are also experiencing a great lost on their opportunity cost. The government is taking the situation seriously that they planning to continue a home base job if the situation worsen.
