Toyota Suspends Sales in US To Solve Faulty Accelerators

26 January 2010 One Comment

Toyota is temporarily seizing its sales and production in the United States and Canada after suspending eight models in a recall last week for a potential fault in the accelerator pedal.

The plants affected for the first week of February are plants in North America, located in Indiana, Texas, Kentucky, and in Ontario.

“Toyota is taking the actions to ensure safety and restore confidence in Toyota among consumers”, said Bob Carter, Toyota U.S. group vice president.

The recall is necessary until the fix is finalized so that all concerns about the safety of customers are ensured.

Last week, Toyota recalled 2.3 million vehicles in the US to fix the accelerator pedal that could get stuck.  This is different from the recall that happened last year and is the second big recall in four months in the US.
