“Survivor: Palau” 4^th placer Jennifer Lyon has died of breast cancer at the age of 37.

Lyon discovered she had cancer in 2005 shortly after appearing in the CBS reality show. She felt something in her right breast but she only ignored it for a long time thinking it was a scar tissue related to her breast implants. Later on she learned that she already had a stage-three cancer.

In a fight against cancer, Lyon underwent a series of mastectomy and chemotherapy. Since her diagnosis, she also became an advocate for breast cancer awareness and hosted many fundraising for breast cancer research. Her website is dedicated in promoting her cause.

Austin Carty from “Survivor: Panama” shortly dated Lyon and said in an interview that he was saddened when he learned Jennifer had cancer. He added, “She was engaged in the greatest fight of her life, but she had every intention to fight and spread her positive messages.”

“Survivor” Jeff Probst spoke with Lyon near the end of show about “the idea that death is such a hard subject and so many of us don’t know what is appropriate to say, so we end up saying the wrong thing for all the right reasons.”

The experience that Lyon learned from “Survivor” had given her strength to fight her battle against the disease.
